Exploring B-roads along quiet secondary paved and unpaved roads, with some off-road sections thrown in for fun, on drop bar bikes and wider tyres is something that we know and love here at Fulcrum. For years we have been designing, testing and pedalling the best wheels for paved and unpaved sectors. All this experience has prepared us to provide specific solutions for people that enjoy exploring with their bikes, guaranteeing quality, reliability and performance.
The world of gravel, however, is not easily defined. Every cyclist has their own way of doing things. It is with this versatility in mind that we have developed the new Rapid Red 3, the result of our in-depth knowhow developed over many years in both sectors, road and off-road. 
The new Rapid Reds, created from a completely new project, are perfectly at home on mixed terrain. Constructed completely with a machined CNC aluminum section, which significantly lowers their weight, their 24 mm internal rim width is ideal for current frames designed around larger wheels. A step up in class for the Rapid Red family of wheels, created for the more technically minded riders out there looking for the benefits of wider rims.
The celebrated 2-Way Fit™ Ready system allows you to run the wheels tubeless (valves included) or with the classic clincher and inner tube, ensuring the widest possible compatibility with most tyres available on the market. The choices don’t stop there: they are available in 700C (starting width 30mm) or 650B. With the various options possible, from wheel size to tyre type, you can either make this wheel extremely fast on the road or unstoppable in the most demanding off-road situations. In fact they are classified for ASTM 2 riding conditions.

To ensure the responsiveness of the wheel the hubs are made in aluminum with the cone/cup system, to provide the best absorption of the forces involved in more intense off-road use. The bearings can be preloaded with the adjustment ring, to eliminate axial tolerance and optimize smoothness. We use this system in all top of the range Fulcrum wheels.
The rotor is secured to the hub with our Axial Fixing System™ (AFS™). An innovative solution that, through the larger fixing surface, increases structural stiffness and achieves more precise and powerful braking. The system is compatible with standard center lock rotors.
Such a refined wheel needed a shrewd selection of spokes. We therefore opted for 24 straight pull spokes, double butted to 1.6 mm, front and rear, to achieve a reliable and strong wheel, even on long rides and in challenging terrain.  
To increase rider safety, whilst at the same time giving the wheels their unique look, we have included reflective details for those rides that finish, or start, after the sun has gone down.
Despite the great technical evolution that led to this wheelset, what we said about the founder of the Rapid Red family of wheels still rings true today: for Fulcrum versatility and reliability are synonymous with freedom.

RDB - Rim Dynamic Balance
The concept is simple and elegant: balance the weight of the gasket, with an item of similar weight placed on the exact opposite side.

2:1 Two-to-One
When you push on the pedals, the rotational force on the sprocket induces a slackening of the freewheel spokes with a consequent loss of rim tension. This results in undesirable flex of the whole wheel and an unavoidable loss of energy. Fulcrum® has solved this classic cycling problem with its 2:1 Two-to-One™ Spoke Ratio patent, by doubling the spokes in the critical zones.

MoMag
Mounting Magnet
What is MoMag™? A magnet and lots of ingenuity. This was what led to the patent for the well-tested “Mounting Magnet” system, or MoMag™. How does it work? The nipples, once inserted inside the rim via the valve hole, are “guided” to the point of connection with the spoke by means of the magnet. This simple but ingenious system makes it possible to have a wheel without holes on the upper bridge, but with spokes tensioned by traditional nipples! Advantages: No holes on the rim means that the rim is uniform at every point, free from stress points or zones of weakness and, for the clincher profiles no rim tape is required, to the benefit of weight reduction. The advantages are immediately clear: greater rim lifetime, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility to give the spokes greater tension, and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, mean greater reactivity and acceleration. But that’s not all. The advantages also include extremely quick and simple maintenance and spoke replacement. All to the benefit of cyclists who choose Fulcrum®.

Wide Rim Tech
Fulcrum®’s R&D department, following requests from the competition circuit, has worked to create rims that are wider than before, about 4 mm or more than previously. This technical choice provides an ideal basis for 25/28mm tyres, the sizes currently popular.
This ensures stability, excellent handling and superior comfort.

Oversize Flange
The Oversize Flange was developed from the need to create a system to transmit every watt to the ground without dispersion, stiffening the wheel system where necessary, without having to add spokes or superstructures that increase weight.
The oversize flange uses physics to solve the problem. It increases dishing and enables spokes to be shortened. Doubling the spokes creates a balanced system that is excellent at transmitting torque.

2-Way Fit Ready
Tubeless technology was first used by the auto industry , then by motorcycles and now has reached the cycling industry. After its debut with mountain bikes the moment has come to "put it on the road", and that's what Fulcrum propose to do. They've developed 2-Way Fit™ technology to ensure the perfect compatibility of tubeless rims with normal clincher types and tubes. 2-Way Fit™ wheels are perfectly multipurpose for tackling every situation.
Thanks to a special impression in the valve area, the tubes are fitted with the maximum precision while keeping the tube perfectly stable inside the tyre. Housing the valve for tubeless tyres is also risk-free, with the unquestionable advantage that there are never any air infiltrations caused by non-ideal positioning when fitting. The advantages are indisputable: the tests have highlighted an unique increase in smoothness. Because there is no tube, the friction caused by rubbing against the tyre is eliminated, while the perfect adherence of the tyre to the rim prevents the dispersion of energy.
Tubeless tyres do not suffer from sudden deflation when punctured which is a great advantage in safety terms. There is also no risk of snake bites as there is no tube to rupture.
